In case you missed it, this happened in the first few minutes of the Girls season 4 premiere last night:
What you’re seeing is Marnie (Allison Williams) getting her butt eaten out, nay motorboarded, by Desi (Ebon Moss-Bacharach). Gawker has a 30-second clip of the ass play, a stellar example of the cringe-inducing, realistic sex scenes that Lena Dunham’s HBO show is known for.
Williams explained the making of the scene to Entertainment Weekly:
“It was so elaborate—it involved Spanx that we cut away and glued down and involved menstrual pads and two of those weird thongs.”
She also told Vulture that she instructed the makeup girl on set to make her “smell like cake,” which resulted in the liberal application of vanilla cream. Essentially, she turned her bum into a welcoming, cushioned, pastry-scented safe space. Allison Williams is nothing if not polite.
Since the show went there, Vulture did too, and asked the actress’s father, news anchor Brian Williams, what he thought of the scene. He seemed pretty chilled about it, responding mildly that
“For us, watching her is the family occupation and everybody has to remember it’s acting, no animals were harmed during the filming, and ideally nobody gets hurt.”
Jemima Kirke, who plays Jessa on the show and is no stranger to on-screen foreplay herself, seemed a lot more worked up than pops, telling Vulture “I sat behind Allison and her dad in the first season [premiere] and I was going to puke; I was so nervous.”
Unbelievably, there was more than one awkward ass-related television moment last night. Before Kevin Spacey won the best actor award at the Golden Globes, this happened:
