When it comes to the super-sized world of fast-food, less is never more. Now, a 64-year-old woman from New York is suing KFC for cheating her out of her rightful share of fried chicken, claiming the company's under-filled buckets add up to a $20 million penalty for false advertising.
According to the New York Post, the trouble all started this summer when Anna Wurtzburger bought a $20 bucket from the fast-food chain, and found a paltry amount of fried chicken at the bottom. She claims that KFC's advertisements depict the buckets brimming with crispy brown poultry, and now wants the company to pay up for duping her.
"I came home and said, 'Where's the chicken?' I thought I was going to have a couple of meals," Wurtzburger told the Post. "They say it feeds the whole family...They're showing a bucket that's overflowing with chicken."
At first, Wurtzburger attempted to take her complaint through more traditional channels. She called KFC's Georgia headquarters and was given two measly coupons as a deep-fried olive branch from the chain. But Wurtzburger couldn't be gotten rid of that easily. She was furious over KFC's claim that its chicken had to be displayed prominently in ads "so that the public could see the chicken."
Finally the disgruntled fried chicken enthusiast hired a lawyer,and will seek justice before a judge. And while it remains to be seen whether Wurtzburger is an American hero or just a lady who really, really loved her drumsticks, she's not the first customer to file such a lawsuit against a major food company. Earlier this year, Starbucks was hit with a multi-million dollar suit after customers accused the chain of stuffing its ice coffee with too much ice.
In a perfect world, we'd all be sipping lukewarm venti iced coffees while going to town on a small mountain of fast-food fried chicken. It's safe to say we are all Anna Wurtzburger.
