The Spiciest Chip in the World Is Sold in a Single, Coffin-Shaped Package

Smokin’ Ed Currie’s Carolina Reaper is not only the world’s hottest chili pepper—making two grown men like Sean Evans and Chili Klaus tear up little babies—but it also seasons the world’s hottest tortilla chip.

Paqui, a Texas-based tortilla and chip company, has teamed up with Smokin’ Ed’s PuckerButt Pepper Company to create the lethal (and aptly titled) Carolina Reaper Madness Chip.

Cleverly packaged in what looks like a coffin, the Carolina Reaper Madness chip is also flavored with ghost peppers and chipotle seasoning, which seems like overkill, considering the Reaper currently holds the Guinness World Record for Hottest Chili Pepper on earth, clocking in at roughly 2.2 million Scoville units.

Jeff Day, the brand manager for Paqui chips, insists this is not a Lay’s “Bet you can’t eat just one” situation.

"It's the hottest chip you'll ever have, I can guarantee you that,” Day told Mashable. “After you eat that one chip, trust me, you're not looking to dig back into the bag and have a second one. So, one chip is what we created to have the experience."

Limiting consumers to only one chip does seem at least a little un-American, but Day stands behind the decision.

The reason that we're selling this as one chip is because quite honestly, that's all that you need,” he adds. “That's all that anyone needs.”

Should you decide you want to scorch your taste buds into oblivion, don’t be an idiot and chase the chip down with water, which only spreads the heat. Chug some milk—or take down some ice cream, yogurt, or honey—if you decide to live your life like a Jackass episode.
