The Obamas Feasted on Tuna Tostadas and Duck Carnitas at Cosme Last Night

As leader of the free world, Barack Obama can pretty much eat wherever he wants. While every once in awhile this job perk may translate to a hot bowl of bún chả with Anthony Bourdain, more often than not Barry is just balling out at some of nation’s finest restaurants with First Lady Michelle Obama in tow. On Monday, while in New York City for the UN General Assembly this week, POTUS and FLOTUS capped the night off with a meal at Cosme, a pricey, upscale Mexican restaurant in the Flatiron District helmed by the renowned chef Enrique Olvera.

And while the family’s trips to Manhattan hotspots like Estela, ABC Kitchen, Carbone, Red Rooster, and Maialino are the stuff of legend, a receipt of the Obamas’ order began circulating around social media this time, giving the public a glimpse at what a presidential dinner looks like.

Apparently, Barack and Michelle chowed down on some tuna tostadas, blue shrimp, lobster, tlayuda, burrata, short rib, soft shell crab, duck carnitas, and red mole. Let’s just hope their secret service detail (the president reportedly rolled up to East 21st Street with a 13-car motorcade) was helping them finish all that grub.

“I thought you shouldn’t serve mole with anything. It already has, like, fifteen ingredients in it,” he said. “It doesn’t need chicken. It doesn’t need rice. We should just serve it with tortillas.”

From the looks what the Obamas ordered, it doesn’t sound like they took Olvera’s advice.
