Burger King Is About to Drop the Latest Snack-Food Mash-Up With “Mac 'n Cheetos”

This is not a drill. We repeat: This is not a drill. On Wednesday, news broke that Burger King—the fast-food chain that most recently brought America the “Whopperrito”—would soon be releasing “Mac n’ Cheetos,” sticks of deep-fried macaroni and cheese battered with Cheetos-flavored crumbs.

As Bloomberg points out, Mac n’ Cheetos are simply the latest collaboration between fast-food chains and Frito-Lay, the snack conglomerate that produces items like Cheetos, Doritos, and other chips. In 2012, Taco Bell first unveiled its popular Doritos Locos Tacos item, and consumers can purchase a somewhat similar cheese-filled snack—Doritos Loaded Nachos—at stores like Walmart.

Still, Burger King is betting that a collaboration of this magnitude will feel special. According to Bloomberg, a pack of five Mac n’ Cheeto costs $2.49, and will be available for eight weeks, or until supplies run out. The fast-food chain and Cheetos began working on the collaboration roughly a year ago, but kept it under wraps.

“We’re partnering up with one of Americans’ favorite brands,” Alex Macedo, Burger King’s North America president, told Bloomberg. “It’s quite unique.”
