The NHL playoffs kicked off this week, which means it’s time to brace for low scores, fighting, and trash-can fires once someone finally takes home to Stanley Cup. The first round sees the Chicago Blackhawks facing off with arch-rivals the St. Louis Blues, and Dunkin’ Donuts may have given the Blackhawks an edge by selling coffee cups to St. Louis fans with the Blackhawks logo printed on the side.
According to WGN News, the styrofoam cups say “The official coffee of the Chicago Blackhawks” on the side, with the logo printed twice. They were meant for the Chicago metro area, but a shipment accidentally reached a Dunkin’ location in Kirkwood, MO, a suburb of St. Louis.

During game one of the playoff series, a Missouri news network brought the cups to the games and asked fans opinions of the debacle. Let’s just say they weren’t pleased. One fan called the cups offensive; another called them disgusting.
Of course, Dunkin’ released a statement apologizing for the incident: “Due to an untimely shipping error from the regional distribution center. Being a local business owner and fan of the hometown team, the franchisee plans to switch out the cups as soon as they receive a new shipment.”
We’re not buying that accident explanation though; we’re thinking there’s some dude in a Blackhawks jersey sitting at the Dunkin’ Donuts regional shipping center laughing maniacally.
