Subway is Raising the Price of the Footlong Subs From $5 to $6

In what some may consider the most disappointing fast-food news of 2016, Subway has decided to raise the price of its iconic $5 footlong sub to $6.

The New York Daily News reports that as of Thursday (today), Subway will begin selling the footlong subs for six bones. The below tweet sparked many questions, the most common being what a “classic sub” is.

According to the Subway Twitter, a “classic sub” is any regular Subway sandwich before you add all the good stuff like guac.

Fans took to Twitter to express their feelings towards the promotion and reacted exactly how you might expect:

Subway responded to a fan on Facebook explaining the reasoning behind the change in price. The brand states,

“We know how much our fans have contributed to the success of the $5 footlong promotions in the past. We first launched the $5 footlong way back in 2007 and in the last 9 years our costs have gone up greatly and inflation has eroded the value of everyone’s dollar. But we are always looking for new ways to bring fans great tasting subs at a great value so we’re introducing the $6 All Classic Footlong Event for the entire month of February.”

The worst part about this decision has been the fact that the catchy five-dollar footlong jingle will forever be a thing in the past. Let’s be honest: “six dollar foot long” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
