New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees appeared on “Conan” recently and chatted with late-night mainstay Conan O’Brien about everything from his kids’ wanting to hit him like J.J. Watt to Super Bowl predictions.
He also shared an anecdote about wrestling, killing, and then eating an alligator with Bear Grylls, which was featured on Grylls’ show “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” last September.
[pullquote]”We went out in the jungle, and just kind of survived for two days. And at one point, we’re walking through this dry creek bed, and [Grylls had] been talking about ‘hey, we need to find dinner, it’s starting to get late,’ find a campsite and that kind of thing. Make fire. Eat. And we come around the corner and there’s this six-foot alligator and he said, ‘Alright, that’s dinner.’
And I said, ‘Alright, well, how do you propose we do this?’ He said, ‘Well, I’m gonna distract it, you jump on it, stab it, kill it, gut it, carry it, we eat it.'”[/pullquote]
In case you’re curious about how that tactic turned out, the Saints shared a clip of the encounter before the episode aired.

Brees went on to mention that “we made a fire, cut steaks out of its tail, put ’em on a stick—just like roasting a marshmallow.” Brees’ coach Sean Payton joked about the capricious hunt last fall, saying that he and the team “would have to look at the structure of [Brees’] contract” to see if what went down was kosher.
Seems alright to us—Brees bagged a seemingly legal kill, ate it, and didn’t injure himself. At least he wasn’t out head-hunting.
