Anthony Bourdain—he’s just like the rest of us. He really, really, really loves Waffle House. Even the globe-trotting food guru can’t resist the covered, smothered, and diced charms of the 24-hour breakfast chain.
Bourdain first declared his love for Waffle House late last month during a visit to The Late Show where he revealed that his favorite part about filming an episode of Parts Unknown in Charleston, SC was discovering “the glories of Waffle House.” That episode aired last night, and in it, Bourdain could not stop singing the chain’s praises, notes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, even comparing it to The French Laundry, the highly lauded Napa restaurant by chef Thomas Keller.
Bourdain visited a local Waffle House with chef Sean Brock, who tells Bourdain he should get an order of the chain’s popular pecan waffles (a strong move). Brock then demos how to slather a butter-like product over every inch of the waffle before drowning it in syrup. Bourdain deems Waffle House to be “marvelous,” but is most impressed by how great it is for serious drunk food. The chain is open 24 hours a day, meaning that customers of all “degrees of inebriation” are welcome at any point.

Brock explains Waffle House’s charm to Bourdain: “You don’t come here expecting The French Laundry… You expect something amazing,” he adds. In response Bourdain declares, “This is better than The French Laundry.”
Bourdain isn’t the only celebrity that is a huge fan of Waffle House and its greasy breakfast fare. Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen have also visited the chain—for a double date no less. Watch Bourdain wax poetic about Waffle House below:
