If you thought Paula Deen was horrible at apologizing, check out Ariana Grande.
After Grande was spotted licking multiple donuts she didn’t pay for and stating that she “hates America,” it was no surprise that the Internet blew up at the 22-year-old diva.
Ariana, who was set to headline the MLB ‘All Stars Concert’ in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, recently announced that she would not be attending due to “health issues”—possibly from eating a donut that didn’t belong to her.
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Grande took a stab at making amends and failed miserably. Here’s Ariana’s apology:
Instead of owning up to the insensitive comments that were made on Tuesday, Grande uses the interview as a platform to soap-box about the American food system, and degrade everyone who enjoys the occasional fried treat. The proud vegan goes on to state that she “sometimes gets upset by how freely Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences.” Well, she clearly wasn’t thinking when she licked those donuts.
While it’s possible that Grande had the best of intentions for this apology, unfortunately, it only came out as hypocritical and strange. Ariana definitely did not look like she was being held in that donut shop against her will.
One thing’s for certain: Big Sean is out there winning with his Chipotle burritos while Ariana is losing big with her doughnut-licking apology.
UPDATE: The leaked video footage of Ariana Grande licking a doughnut at a shop in California is being investigated by local police in Elsinore County, CA and a team of public health officials. According to ABC News, 22-year-old Mayra Solis, the cashier working at Wolfee Donuts when Grande came into the shop, said the singer didn’t purchase any of the doughnuts she licked. Mayra also told the Associated Press, “She was really rude.”
So you’d think that the police were trying to figure out Grande’s abominable behavior, right? Wrong. AP reports, “Dottie Ellis-Merki, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health, said the agency was investigating why the doughnuts were left out unprotected and exposed to the public, in violation of state food laws. She said investigators found no further issues at the shop on Wednesday.” The employee defended himself, saying he had left the tray of doughnuts (which Grande proceeded to lick) out on the counter while he went to fetch freshly made doughnuts from the back.
