In a move that surprised no one, Carl’s Jr.’s is testing Pepperoni Pizza Fries at a dozen restaurants in Southern California. The fries, which retail for $2.39 a pop, are topped with pepperoni, pizza sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
If you’re sitting there thinking: Hold up, I’ve already seen pepperoni pizza with a crust made of French fries—that’s because you have. Gizmodo has instructions on how to make pizza with fry crust, which you should do tonight (instead of going to Carl’s Jr.).
Carl’s Jr. has simply inverted the fry pizza and changed the proportions. Clever? Nah.
To the untrained (and definitely non-Canadian) eye, Pepperoni Pizza Fries may look similar to poutine. But do not make the mistake of calling them poutine. Mile End Deli owner Noah Bernamoff tells First We Feast, “There’s no gravy or cheese curds. Cheese fries with melted mozzarella and marinara is not poutine.” Case closed.
