Joey Bada$$ Makes Curry Chicken and Waffles with Sweet Chick's John Seymour

The young Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ has gotten attention for many things since entering the scene in 2010, including his acclaimed mixtape 1999 and that time Malia Obama appeared to be repping his hip-hop collective, Pro Era.

With his debut album, B4.DA.$$, Joey also enters the storied ranks of food-obsessed emcees with the track “Curry Chicken,” inspired by the flavors of home (most notably, his mom’s cooking).

In the lead-up to last week’s album release, we followed Joey to Williamsburg, where he met up with John Seymour of Sweet Chick to create the “Bada$$ Waffle,” infused with fresh coconut and topped with Caribbean-style curry chicken. They were so psyched about the results that they decided to throw a party at Sweet Chick, complete with a performance from Joey and a suspenseful taste test from his mom.

Watch the video to see how the dish came together, and find out if mom approved. Want to try the Bada$$ Waffle for yourself? Catch it on the menu for the next month at both Sweet Chick locations (Williamsburg and the Lower East Side).

You can also win a meal for four at Sweet Chick—as well as follows on Instagram from First We Feast, Joey Bada$$, and Complex—by sharing a photo of the meal that reminds you of home and tagging #BadassWaffle.
