In a world where people are prepared to drop $900 at any time for a cupcake—well, to be fair, it was injected with 21-year-old Courvoisier cognac and a bunch of intricately sculpted sugar diamonds—it’s not shocking to see extravagantly-priced desserts popping up on menus.
The particular menu in question is the one at Bubby’s High Line location in New York City. When judging the offerings of a restaurant whose motto is “Defending the American table,” we can expect some shamelessly over-the-top creations.
Everything on the soda fountain lineup is reasonably priced, except for one thing: the “Kitchen Sink,” which contains 16 ice cream scoops and $100 worth of patriotic excess. It comes with pretzels, pecans, peanuts, chocolate chip cookie crumbs, chocolate and caramel syrup, raspberry and cherry syrup, rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, and is topped with cherries and an American flag.
Yes, it does feed 8-10 people, but honestly, for $100, we’d expect to see some Dom or 24k gold thrown into the mix.
If you’re looking to really indulge in dessert’s finest, the Kitchen Sink isn’t for you. Feel free to drop $1,000 on Serendipity 3’s Golden Opulence Sundae, made with edible 23-karat gold. So no, Kitchen Sink, you haven’t won this one.
