As of last week, Colorado’s first fully functioning dispensaries are open and operating. Following the approved bills in 2012, Colorado was relatively quick to get their dispensaries up and running, with Washington to follow suit later this year.
How better to celebrate the legalization of weed than by making your very own cannabutter?
Watch the video above for an easy step-by-step tutorial on how to make cannabis-infused butter. And here’s a breakdown of the recipe:
Supplies
- Double boiler
- Cooking twine
- Cheese cloth
- Foil pan
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 pound butter
- 1/2 ounce marijuana
Directions
- Set butter in double boiler and allow it to melt at medium to low heat.
- Put ground up weed into cheese cloth and fold it up into a burrito-esque shape.
- Tie it up with cooking twine, wrapping it around multiple times, and knot it at the end. This is your weed sachet.
- Once butter is fully melted, drop in sachet of marijuana and add one cup of water.
- Let it steep a minimum of 3-4 hours, but ideally around 6, keeping it at low heat. (Note: you might need to add more water to the bottom boiler at some point if it boils out.)
- Squeeze any excess out of the sachet and pour the weed butter mixture into a tin pan.
- Put into freezer for 30-45 minutes and allow water to separate from butter.
- Cut hole in bottom of tin pan and allow water to drain out.
Recipes
Once the cannabutter is made, the possibilities are endless. You can keep it simple and spread the butter on some toast, or get more creative and make some banana bread or brownies. Just make sure to check the recipe, and try not to cook at temperatures higher than 400 degrees fahrenheit or you may risk the potency.
