No shorts are shorter and no tank tops tighter than those of the famed Hooters girls. They’re a tightly knit squad of pep and hair extensions, but no one is more fiercely proud of their day job.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the hot wings-centric breastaurant chain, Business Insider took a camera inside one of Hooter’s Manhattan locations to interview their employees about what it takes to be a Hooter’s girl.
The responses are surprisingly down to earth. The video features Christine Rosario, a waitress who discusses moving from New Jersey, stereotyping, and movement within the company. “Just working, man,” she says with a smile. “That’s all it’s about. Hustling, right?”
Many of the girls in the video reveal that they aspire to higher management positions and hope to stay with the company for a long time. One girl hopes to follow the career arc of Kat Cole, a former Hooter’s waitress of 15 years who, at the age of 34, is currently president of Cinnabon, a $1 billion company.
So there you have it: while you were staring down their shirts, the Hooters girls were networking and quietly advancing their careers.
