Flamin' Hot Cheetos Are Giving Kids Acute Gastrointestinal Problems

We’ve never trusted Chester Cheetah. What’s with the sunglasses? The huge head? And why is his carnivourous-self selling a corn snack?

We now have proof of Chester’s evil intentions: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos have been sending kids to the ER.

LA Weekly reports that doctors have seen an increasing number of patients (mostly children) coming in complaining of gastritis, inflamed stomach lining, and other stomach issues that are thought to be linked to the fiery snack. A pediatrician in Los Angeles reported that she sees between five and six cases of children with gastritis daily.

Dr. Robert Glatter of Lenox Hill believes it’s not the spiciness of the neon snack, but the flavor powder that coats them that may be changing the stomach’s pH. Glatter told ABC, “I’ve seen a number of children who eat four or five bags and come in screaming in pain.”

Some school districts have put a ban on the sale of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos due to high sodium and fat and little to no nutritional value. Though it is unknown which ingredient is wreaking havoc on children’s stomach linings, the combination of onion powder, garlic powder, MSG, and “natural flavors” is definitely one to stay away from in mass quantities. Glatter suggests parents keep their children away from the literally gut-busting snack.
