We clearly love food, and we love a good costume, but the unfortunate reality is that the vast majority of food-themed costumes are rubbish.
While store-bought costumes might save you a whole lot of work, they’re also lacking in the creativity department. For men there seems the be the ubiquitous M&M’s costume, food-cum-sexual innuendo options, and a strange number of banana outfits. For women? Simply add “sexy” in front of the aforementioned. And sadly, homemade costumes often go too crazy with the creative spirit, ending up looking like visual puns that have been beaten with the ugly stick.
As a caveat, we’ve rounded up some of the worst offenders you should avoid this year. If you’re still planning on donning a food-based costume, please go with one of the following options:
Classics:
- Sriracha
- Taco Bell Hot Sauce Packets
- A Box of Franzia
- A Sushi Roll
Culturally Relevant:
- A Cronut
- The Ramen Burger
- A Doritos Locos Taco
