England has no shortage of multi-sensory dining experiences at the moment. With Heston Blumenthal and Bompas & Parr at the forefront of the country’s whimsical avant-garde, opportunities to literally dig into one’s surroundings and take a bite out of, say, a stained-glass window aren’t as infrequent as you’d imagine. Eat Your Heart Out, a collective of food artists, recently pushed the limit of the everything’s-edible genre, transforming a three-story “hotel” into Wonka-esque candyland for a limited-run installation.
Commissioned by Tate & Lyle Sugars, Eat Your Heart Out creative director Miss Cakehead spent 900 hours preparing the invitation only Tate & Lyle Tasting House. At the (fittingly) one-night-only event, guests who won tickets for the experience were encouraged to frolic through meringue rugs, vanilla sponge cushions, and much more. In total, eight rooms were created, with each dedicated to showcasing the unique properties of specific sugars.
More than 600 kilograms of sugar were used to created over 100 items that guests could pluck out of the rooms and eat. Check out the video below to see how it all came together:
