While Angry Birds gets all the love, Fruit Ninja is our go-to mobile game for dealing with the boredom of long commutes and waits at the Apple store Genius Bar.
The premise of the game is straightforward: You slice the fruit(s) flying into the air at varying speeds with a ninja sword that you operate by swiping your fingers across the screen. The trick is to avoid slicing bombs tossed in the mix with pineapples, apples, and oranges. Bonuses in the form of special fruits are also added here and there.
Fruit Ninja has grown so popular that a live-action adaptation of the game has garnered more than 14 million views on YouTube in less than two weeks. The video above was created by Scott Winn and Jay Davis. The soundtrack, “The Chosen,” was co-written by Winn, and Christian Busath plays the amusingly overweight ninja, slicing through everything from watermelons to Twinkies with deft precision.
