French Fry Nutrition, From Worst to Best

By

French fries are never going to be considered a health food, but let’s be real and accept that despite having little to zero nutritional value, we’re never going to stop eating them.

That said, it can be helpful to distinguish the unhealthy from the very unhealthy. For those who want to go into 2013 with abs or whatever, Men’s Health delivers the fatty truth behind some of America’s most popular fries.

  • Worst Classic Fries: A large order of Five Guys fries comes in at 1,474 calories and 71 grams of total fat.
  • Worst Sweet Potato Fries: Cheesecake Factory’s version logs 960 calories and 1,521 milligrams of sodium.
  • Worst Loaded Fries: Chili’s Texas cheese fries with chili and ranch deliver a staggering 2,120 calories, 5,290 milligrams of sodium, and 144 grams of fat.
  • Worst Steak Fries: TGI Friday’s parmesan steak fries pack in 660 calories and 49 grams of fat.
  • Best Curly Fries: A small order of Jack in the Box seasoned curly fries comes at you with 280 calories and 16 grams of fat. (After just typing the stats of the worst above, it’s tempting to use ‘only’ somewhere in the previous sentence, but we recognize that it’s just our sense of scale being temporarily warped.)
  • Best Classic Fries: TGI Friday’s seasoned fries weigh in at 290 calories and 23 grams of fat.
  • Best Fast-Food Fries: A small order of McDonald’s French fries offers 230 calories and 11 grams of fat. Plus, its sodium level is the lowest of ’em all: 160 milligrams.
