We know that Japan and China love to brew outlandish beers: in 2009, Sapporo produced Sapporo Space Barley, which featured barley seeds that spent months on the International Space Station. More recently, a Hello Kitty beer was launched in China.
But we bet you’ve never heard of blue beer.
Abashiri Blue Beer is made with melted icebergs from off the coast of Japan, blue seaweed, flowers, and Chinese yam (no artificial coloring here). It has been available in Japan for five years, but it’s now available online for adventurous American drinkers. The blue brew is sold in individual cans for $8 or in packs of four or eight.
Firebox assures that, contrary to its appearance, Abashiri Blue Beer does not taste like a blue raspberry Slushee.
