What do you get when you put Danny Brown and PDT’s Jim Meehan together in a hotel room full of celebrity-endorsed booze?
Don’t hurt yourself too much trying to answer that, because you can find out by watching the video above right now. The better question might be, why?
We’re big fans of Danny—if you haven’t listened to Old yet, go ahead and do that immediately—and we know he’s a guy who likes to have a little fun. We thought he deserved a Danny Brown signature cocktail, but we didn’t know much about his boozing habits besides a proclivity toward cognac.
So to figure it out, we enlisted the help of Meehan, the mastermind behind world-renowned East Village cocktail joint PDT, and author of The PDT Cocktail Book: The Complete Bartender’s Guide from the Celebrated Speakeasy. Through his years behind the bar, he’s become a wizard at divining the perfect drink for guests based on even the most vague preferences.
To get a strong baseline read on Danny’s likes and dislikes, they tasted their way through five celebrity-endorsed drinks—from Nick Minaj’s flavored moscato to Dan Aykroyd’s Crystal Head Vodka—before creating two potential signature cocktails: a twist on the classic Last Word (invented at the Detroit Athletic Club in the 1920s) built with Jay Z’s D’USSE cognac, and a piña colada riff featuring Pharrell’s Qream peach liqueur.
Which did Danny prefer? Watch the video above to find out.
